Shopify Developer Work From Home Worldwide

📍 Anywhere 🏷️ Software Development 💰 $92,000 / year

Shopify Developer

Full-time, remote, open worldwide. This role pays up to $92,000 a year and sits on the technical side of e-commerce, building the storefronts that clients actually sell through.

Responsibilities

  • Build and customize Shopify storefronts and themes for a range of client businesses
  • Integrate third-party apps and APIs into existing stores without breaking what already works
  • Troubleshoot performance and functionality issues, from slow page loads to checkout errors, for e-commerce clients depending on those stores for revenue
A storefront that looks finished in a design file often needs real adjustment once it's handling live traffic and inventory, and that gap is where most of the work happens.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree meets the baseline requirement, or equivalent hands-on experience, for candidates who took a different path into development. What matters most is a portfolio showing custom Shopify storefronts and integrations you've actually shipped, backed by 18 months in the field. Liquid needs to be second nature, and so does working within Shopify's API ecosystem rather than treating it as a black box.

Skills

  • Liquid templating
  • Shopify's API ecosystem, including REST and GraphQL endpoints
  • JavaScript for front-end interactivity within themes
  • HTML and CSS
  • Theme customization and third-party app integration

Nice to have

These aren't dealbreakers, but they help a candidate move faster once hired.
  • Experience with Shopify Plus for higher-volume merchants
  • Some exposure to headless commerce setups using the Storefront API
  • A track record of building or maintaining a public Shopify app

Team context

Recruiting for this position is handled in part through Naukri Mitra, which handles first-pass screening before a technical interview with the team lead. One recent build hit a snag when a client's inventory sync app conflicted with a custom theme edit during a product launch, cutting off checkout for close to an hour before the fix went live. Situations like that come up occasionally in e-commerce work, and the team treats a fast, calm response as more valuable than avoiding the problem entirely.

Pay and benefits

Base salary runs up to $92,000 per year, which is on the higher end of Shopify developer remote salary figures at this experience level.
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Remote-work flexibility
  • Paid holidays, with occasional virtual team gatherings depending on the employer

Applying

Send a resume along with links to two or three Shopify stores you've built or significantly customized. A short note distinguishing what you built from what came with a theme purchase speeds up review. Candidates typically hear back within a week of applying.
